Su Kwak

Celebrating Su Kwak during Women's History Month. Su is a mother, grandmother, sister, friend, women’s advocate, and a leading Asian-American artist who is esteemed for her atmospheric abstract landscapes. Kwak’s work is included in the permanent collections of the National Museum of  Modern and Contemporary Art of Korea, the Seoul Museum of art, the Busan Museum of Art, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, and the Brauer Museum of art, among others. Kwak is represented by June Kelly Gallery in Soho, New York City.

In October 2022, her "Sky Pass," 2007, watercolor on cut papers mounted on canvas, 24 x 30 inches, was gifted from the private collection of the founders of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the late Wilhelmina Cole Holladay and Wallace F. Holladay, to the Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC.

Born in Busan, Korea, she moved to the United States where she attended college at the University of St. Thomas in Houston and later completed her MFA with honors at the University of Chicago. Kwak has had numerous solo and group exhibitions including a traveling retrospective at the Brauer Museum of Art and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
